How to Play a 9x9 Block Puzzle

Block Surge uses a 9x9 board divided into nine 3x3 zones. Place each offered piece without rotating it, then clear complete rows, columns, or 3x3 zones to create room for the next set.

The three ways to clear blocks

Complete a horizontal row

Fill all nine cells from left to right. The row disappears immediately, opening space across the full board.

Complete a vertical column

Fill all nine cells from top to bottom. Columns are valuable when the center becomes crowded because one clear can connect space in several zones.

Complete a 3x3 zone

Fill every cell in one of the nine outlined 3x3 areas. A single placement can finish a row, a column, and a zone at the same time, producing a stronger combo.

How to keep the board open

Protect the center. The middle connects more rows, columns, and zones than an edge. Avoid filling it with isolated cells unless the move contributes to a near-term clear.

Preserve multiple shapes of empty space. A large empty square is useful, but long horizontal and vertical channels matter too. Do not create a board that only accepts one type of piece.

Build two clears at once. A placement that advances both a column and a 3x3 zone creates more future options than a placement that completes only an isolated pattern.

Do not chase every immediate clear. Sometimes leaving an almost-complete row available creates a better landing zone for the remaining pieces.

What Energy Surge changes

Normal clears charge the Energy Bar. When it fills, Block Surge gives you strategic tools for a tight board: Bomb clears a 3x3 area, Reshuffle replaces the offered pieces, and Lightning clears a line. These tools work best when they restore several future placements rather than solving only one blocked cell.
